I'm 7 weeks and haven't told work yet. The nausea is making me miserable and I keep having to rush to the bathroom.
Survival kit for office nausea: (1) Keep plain crackers, dry namkeen or Marie biscuits in your drawer — eat a few before you even stand up from your desk. (2) Cold water with lemon or mint — sip constantly. (3) Ginger candies or ginger tea in your flask. (4) Identify a less-used restroom near your workspace. (5) Avoid the office cafeteria smells during peak nausea hours — eat at your desk or outside. (6) Tell one trusted colleague or your direct manager — you don't have to announce it to everyone, but having one person who understands can relieve enormous stress.
I wore Sea-Bands (acupressure wristbands) throughout my first trimester and they genuinely helped. You can find them online for about ₹500. Also, cold air helped my nausea — I sat near the AC vent and took short walks to breathe fresh air every hour. Most importantly: don't let yourself get too hungry or too full — both trigger nausea.
Consider talking to your manager earlier than you planned if the nausea is affecting your work quality. Most employers are more understanding than we fear, and the relief of not hiding it is enormous. In India you can also discuss a temporary WFH arrangement in the first trimester — many companies are flexible about this now.
