Is week 30 too early or should I wait until closer to the due date?
Start packing at 32–34 weeks and have it fully ready by 36 weeks. Premature labor can happen and you don't want to be scrambling. Essentials: ID and insurance documents, birth plan, charger + power bank, comfortable front-open nightgowns (3), disposable underwear, nursing bra and breast pads, snacks for labor, baby's outfit to come home in, newborn diapers (a small pack), swaddle muslin. Pack a separate bag for your support person. Keep it by the door from week 36.
Make a list at 30 weeks and buy everything over the next 2–3 weeks so it's not a one-day panic. I packed at 34 weeks and went into labor at 37 weeks — very glad I wasn't scrambling. Also useful: pre-register at the hospital at 36 weeks so paperwork is done.
