My feet swell so badly by evening I can't fit into my chappals. I sit at a desk all day. What actually helped?
Elevate your feet above heart level for 20 minutes twice a day — this is the most effective single thing. Reduce sodium intake (no added salt, avoid pickles and papads). Stay very well hydrated — counterintuitively, more water helps your body flush retained fluid. Compression socks worn from morning (before you get up) make a big difference for desk workers. If your face or hands swell suddenly, check your blood pressure immediately — that's a preeclampsia warning sign.
Cooling foot soaks with mint and cold water in the evenings felt incredible. I also rolled a frozen water bottle under my feet for 10 minutes. For sitting at a desk, I kept a small stool under my feet to keep them elevated all day — my IT manager didn't mind at all once I explained.
